Are you in a hurry? Do you have to get yourself across the city in rush hour? Just call an air taxi, you’ll be there in no time at all. This kind of advertisement is not science fiction anymore. With EHang AAV on the way, you won’t have to wait for too long to see air taxies part of our daily lives. Read on to find out more about this cutting-edge technology.

What is EHang AAV?

EHang AAV (Autonomous Areal Vehicle) is an autonomous air mobility device that can fly you short to medium distances in urban areas. EHang, which is based in China, is the closest to the production of an air taxi. The mission of EHang is to create safe, eco-friendly, and autonomous mobility devices that can be available to everyone. The AAV devices made by EHang are about 177 centimeters long and can travel at a speed of up to 130 Km/h. These devices can carry up to 220 kilograms of load, translating into two or three passengers, depending on their weight.

The EHang AAV devices are entirely autonomous. In other words, they have to be monitored closely by the command center, and the flight data has to be sent to the center in real-time. Therefore, EHang’s AAVs use 4G and 5G Internet connections to keep in touch with the command center at flight time.

What are the advantages of using AAV devices?

Vertical take-off and landing

EHang AAV devices are equipped with vertical take-off and landing technology. This technology does not require a large airport or a runway. Therefore, it saves lots of time and space. Also, it can reduce urban traffic to a great extent.

Green energy

EHang’s AAV devices use 220V and 380V electricity to run. Because these devices do not require any fossil fuels, their emission rate is zero. These can significantly improve the air quality of urban areas.

Safety

Safety is a priority for EHang AAV devices. Back-up systems support all the major equipment of the AAVs. All the systems are connected to the command center, and real-time reports are sent to the monitoring center. In case of an emergency, the command center steps in and controls the device remotely to ensure the passengers’ safety.

What are the other uses of EHang AAV devices?

Passenger transportation

EHang AAV devices were initially designed to carry passengers across cities in short and medium distances. It helps people avoid urban traffic and reduce air pollution.

Heavy-lift AAV

In September 2020, EHang announced that they had designed special models of AAV to carry heavy loads in both urban and rural areas.

Air ambulance

EHang has also been selected to join an international project to develop air ambulances. The AAV devices used in this project will be equipped with aid kits and can be used for speedy and safe transportation of critical patients and accident victims.

Air firefighters

In July 2020, EHang announced that they had unveiled their first firefighting EHang AAV. These devices can fly to a maximum of 600 meters high and extinguish fires hard to reach for the firefighter crew. The firefighter AAV can carry up to 150 kilograms of extinguisher foam and six fire extinguisher bombs in a single flight. EHang AAV firefighters can make a massive difference in the process of fighting urban and wildfires.

Air tourism

EHang has also partnered with LN Holdings, a tourism platform company based in Guangzhou, China, to deliver air tourism services. These services include areal sightseeing services for hotels, airport shuttles, and aerial media shows.

How did AAV affect EHang’s stock value?

2020 has had many ups and downs for EHang’s sock value, but this 555-million-dollar company is on the rise. EHang stock is being traded at $10.48 today, but stocks analysts estimate that it will rise to $96.78 in the next 12 months. This price represents an increase of 766.99% from the last price of the EHang stock. This increase is mainly due to AAV’s success in the Chinese market and its export to other countries. Right now, South Korea has managed to get the necessary permissions from the government to purchase AAV devices from EHang. Other countries are catching up with this technology as well.
